Tvia Launches New Rich Multimedia Processor
CyberPro™ 5202 displays three different media sources simultaneously for an enhanced viewing experience
Santa Clara, Calif. - March 13, 2002 - Tvia, Inc., (NASDAQ:TVIA), leading provider of rich multimedia processors that enable enhanced viewing announced today that it has released the CyberPro™ 5202, the latest in its family of feature rich multimedia processors. CyberPro5202 merges multiple independent streams of audio, video, text, graphics and animation and delivers high quality output streams for display to multiple devices such as traditional cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions, digital televisions (DTVs), panel displays, information access devices (IADs) and LCD products.
"The CyberPro5202 facilitates the evolution of television from a single viewing device to an interactive media processing center," said Eli Porat, Tvia's president and chief executive officer. "With as many as three different sources presented simultaneously, the CyberPro5202 enables applications such as video on demand, enhanced interactive program guides, simultaneous TV and web access and personal video recording (PVR). And as the rapidly emerging interactive television (ITV) industry expands, even more applications will develop."
The CyberPro5202 incorporates all the features of the established CyberPro5000 family. In addition, a 24-bit RGB digital interface directly supports LCD displays and other digital interfaces, such as PanelLink™. Enhanced, flexible alpha-blending capabilities allow overlay of different windows with programmable levels of opacity. Two advanced TV encoders allow the user to configure the recording picture in PVR applications. Magic color maintains crisp text presentation, even as the opacity of the window is varied.
The CyberPro5202 integrated graphics engine is vital for Information Access Devices (IADs) that require exceptional graphics performance to manage applications such as system menuing, Electronic Programming Guide (EPG), Internet windows or other graphics-intense applications. Together, an integrated TV encoder and broadcast quality video DACs permit video, text, graphics and animation streams to be displayed through flexible TV outputs to traditional CRT TVs formats including NTSC/PAL, Composite video, S-video, YCrCb/YPrPb component video, or Scart RGB.
Among the features and functions provided by the CyberPro5202 is the FlexiBUS architecture, a configurable bus interface that supports a PCI bus or most major CPUs directly. "Whereas competitors offer interfaces for one or two CPUs, the Tvia's CyberPro5202 enables customers to choose the CPU that best meets system, technical and cost requirements," said James Tao, Tvia's vice president, marketing. "By moving to a higher or lower performance CPU, the OEMs can develop multiple products from the same platform to meet different performance, feature set and cost requirements for their entire product offering." Through FlexiBUS, industry-standard CPUs supported include the Hitachi SH-7750 and SH-MPX, StrongARM 1110, PowerPC and AMD Elan. Through the PCI interface, other CPUs are supported, such as MIPS from several vendors, and x86 from Intel, AMD, Transmeta, ZFLinux and National.
To help customers minimize cost and software development time, Tvia's CyberPro5202 supports a suite of proven operating system (OS) and real time operating system (RTOS) software including Embedded Windows XP, Windows CE™, VxWorksÔ, Linux™, QNX, Microware OS9 and Itron. The CybroPro5202 also fully addresses the audio contribution to enhanced rich multimedia processing. Tvia's CyberPro 5202 employs integrated audio digital signal processing such as MIDI, FM, 32-channel wave-table synthesis; AC97 support with full-duplex capabilities, PCM input, I2S input and output; SPDIF output; and a digital and analog game port.
Tvia also offers development source code (SDK) for the CyberPro5202. The SDK is designed to help customers reduce their development time and time to market.
Tvia's CyberPro processors, including the CyberPro5202 will be demonstrated at several OEM exhibits at the Embedded Systems Conference, held March 12 to 16 in San Francisco's Moscone Center. More information on Tvia's participation at the conference, on product availability and on pricing is available by calling Tvia at 1.408.982.8588.
